“𝗔 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀” is finally out in the world! I’ve been a fan of Jarrett Lerner’s artwork on literacy, but this book, in my favourite format (novel in verse), is on a different plane. Told in words and images, it is Will’s journey of being fat-shamed, of body image and self-acceptance, of being made to feel inadequate. Jarrett hits the bull’s eye with the dedication, “𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯.”

My favourite lines:

“𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴. 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘺… 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 – 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 – 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘮𝘦.”

Perfect for 8-year-olds and above. Our boys and girls need this book, and so do you!
