“𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆” is one of the best written fictional narratives of the partition of India in 1947 and its aftermath. The characters Nisha and Amil are so unforgettable that my heart skipped a beat when I found the sequel to The Night Diary – “𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿”!
“𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿” is the story of the twelve-year-old twins set in 1948 in Bombay where they are trying to resettle after crossing the border from Mirpur Khas of Pakistan. Both Hindu and Muslim (their mother was a Muslim and their father a Hindu), the twins navigate religion, identity, and a new social fabric as they make sense of their lives in tumultuous, independent India. This is the story of Amil, who expresses himself through drawings, making this book a gentle yet thought-provoking read.
Perfect for ages 8 and above.
