Another Squiggly Story

If you have “A Squiggly Story” in your collection, then it’s pre-order time for its sequel “Another Squiggly Story”…

It begins with the boy being asked by his teacher to write a story about himself – “about the things that make you who you are” and follows his journey through the writing process. This book is a great mentor text not just for tips on how to choose a topic and developing ideas but also to show that writing is a messy process and it’s ok to revise & edit, the benefits of turn-and-talk (or peer feedback) and that a writing piece isn’t completed in a day.

I love when the sister shows her own autobiography to the boy – a perfect example of the power of student-made mentor texts (and it also serves as a nudge to educators to use student writing often as exemplars, at par with published texts).
