Just finished reading Hena Khan’s latest book “𝗗𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗮”. It is a thoroughly enjoyable and relatable middle grade novel where the protagonist deals with anxiety and at the same time tackles a maze of friendships, social media, and identity as she takes it upon herself to promote her mother’s business online. I love the way Hena has effortlessly woven in Urdu dialogues that make the characters so much more life-like. The book also addresses the typical South Asian misconception that the desire of being an artist is not a pragmatic goal and that limited financial resources should rather be spent on academic pursuits.
Perfect for grades 4 and above!
