Eighteen Flowers for Grandma

Sadie loves art, and so does her grandmother. Along the way, Grandma also shares stories about Jewish traditions like the meaning of ‘chai’ (“life” in Hebrew) and the lucky number 18.

When Grandma’s college graduation approaches, Sadie wants to create a gift that truly matters. She experiments with different ideas like stamping lilac stems, pressing dandelions, arranging buttons into flowers, but nothing feels special enough.

Her idea finally comes together at a Jewish wedding celebration, when she hears her grandmother admire the many kinds of flowers. Inspired, Sadie designs a bouquet of 18 handmade flowers, using all her art supplies to make something thoughtful and meaningful.

This gentle intergenerational story celebrates creativity and cultural pride. It offers readers a warm glimpse into Jewish traditions and would make a lovely classroom read-aloud, extending beyond the more familiar Hanukkah and Passover stories.
