Everyone loves lunchtime, except Zia whose lunch box is different because it is packed with home-cooked Cantonese food. She loves the food at home, but feels embarrassed by the same food at school – she’d rather have food similar to her classmates to blend in. When she shares her feelings with her parents, they come up with an idea of packing a special Cantonese dish for lunch each day and explain the significance of the dish to Zia. Soon Zia feels that the dishes are working their magic by bringing in togetherness, success, treasure, warmth, happiness, and luck into her school day.

“𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗭𝗶𝗮” is a perfect book to be read aloud to help children appreciate the food from their culture. I love this book because instead of highlighting Chinese cuisine in general, author Jenny Liao has focused on Cantonese cuisine and specificity always makes a book more appealing!
