When Joanna Ho (๐๐บ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐๐ช๐ด๐ด ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด) comes together with Liz Kleinrock (๐๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐ต ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ, ๐๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐ต ๐๐ฐ๐ธ: ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐๐ฏ๐ต๐ช๐ฃ๐ช๐ข๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐ฏ๐ต๐ช๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐ช๐ด๐ต ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฌ ๐ช๐ฏ ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐๐ค๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ญ ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ช๐ต๐บ) to create a picture book, magic is guaranteed. โ๐๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ช๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑโ๐ ๐ช๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐โ is the best adoptee story that Iโve ever come across. Joanna has surpassed all her previous work!
This is the story of a South Korean adoptee with a blue-eyed mom and a brown-eyed dad who knows and feels that her family loves her to the moon and back, but who is aware that she alone looks different in her family, and also wonders about her biological mom. A story of transracial adoption, the text is so rich and lyrical that the cadence can be enjoyed by an early primary student and the finer literary devices can be appreciated, cherished, and valued by older students. Dung Hoโs illustrations add to the story more than words do!
I truly loved the lines on every single page, but just to give you a flavour:
