Holi Hai!

Tomorrow, 17 March, is the eve of Holi and here’s just the perfect book for the occasion. It is wonderful to see a festival that we have grown up observing, finally being represented in a picture book - especially heartwarming is the oral-storytelling of the folklore of Prahlad and Holika.

A bonfire is lit on the eve (signifying the victory of good over evil), and the next day marks the advent of spring, as family, friends and neighbours play with colours.

While each community has its slight variations, Bongs are high on “Pranams” – the first pinch of colour is therefore placed on elders’ feet for their blessings, following which the wild festivity begins!
