š—£š—暝—¼š—³š—¼š˜‚š—»š—±!

I was attracted to this picture book title, because of its similarity with one of the couplets of Kabir Das, a 15th century Indian poet who was highly critical of organised religion in any form and instead believed in humanity.

This picture book is more than profound and a great reminder for us as we count down into the holiday season. Slow down, take a step back, share without the expectation of return and you will always have enough… Swipe to see some of my favourite pages…

PS. Here’s the couplet from Kabir Das Ji; he wrote in vernacular Hindi, influenced by the Braj, Bhojpuri and the Awadhi dialects:

साँई इतना ą¤¦ą„€ą¤œą¤æą¤, ą¤œą¤¾ą¤®ą„‡ ą¤•ą„ą¤Ÿą„ą¤® ą¤øą¤®ą¤¾ą¤Æą„¤

ą¤®ą„ˆą¤‚ ą¤ą„€ ą¤ą„‚ą¤–ą¤¾ ना ą¤°ą¤¹ą„‚ą¤, ą¤øą¤¾ą¤§ą„ न ą¤ą„‚ą¤–ą¤¾ ą¤œą¤¾ą¤Æą„¤ą„¤

(May I have enough to sustain my world (ą¤•ą„ą¤Ÿą„ą¤®), may I not go hungry (for needs? wants? Up to you to interpret!) and may I satiate the hunger of those around me (ą¤øą¤¾ą¤§ą„ - saint/people - again, up to you to interpret!)
