Milloo's Mind

Beyond being a biography of an educator who championed for women’s education, “𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗼’𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱” is a picture book written with love and elegance, the kind that flows only when you write about your grandmother. I love how “𝘌𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩” is repeated throughout the book, like a call to action. The way Reem Faruqi lends it a personal touch by using phrases like “𝘴𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘻𝘪 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘢”, “𝘤𝘩𝘢-𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘪 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘢”, makes it special. And the illustrations – ooh, I can’t take my eyes off the translucent effect on the dupattas; the zari border and the jewellery of the bridal outfit are gorgeous!

I’m definitely reading this aloud to my Grade 2s tomorrow!
