“𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻” is a book dear to me for many reasons. It welcomes you to the world of fungi with gorgeous illustrations and engaging text. I realise that I do not read aloud many non-fiction books to my class kids. This definitely will fill the gap.
But what makes this book so endearing is the concept of “mushroom rain” itself. I come from a childhood where mushrooms were not store-bought. It was sourced by the indigenous people of central India whose traditional wisdom dictated if a particular variety was edible or poisonous. They believed that mushrooms would appear only after a certain kind of rain (“Ah, this rain tonight – tomorrow there will be mushrooms!”). This book takes me back to my roots…
