9-year-old only-child Jacob desperately wants a puppy. But his parents announce the arrival of triplet sisters instead – “The Trips” as Jacob calls them. As part of his class work, Jacob does a year-long research project on the Trips and in the process, discovers sibling love. Written in simple prose, this story is a tender revelation of dealing with changes in the family told from a reluctant big brother’s point of view. This sweet and short chapter book on sibling relationship will especially appeal to the age group 7 – 9. Daniel Miyares’ sketches in black and white make it easier for our little readers to visualise.
Patricia MacLachlan passed away in March this year, just months before the release of this book. This adds a philosophical ring to the title “My Life Begins!” The epigraph is equally thought provoking: “𝘞𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴 – 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵.” Love, love, love this book!
