Poetry Prompts

If you teach poetry, then the upcoming “𝗣𝗼𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘀: 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗲𝗺” by the Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho is a fantastic resource. The wizard of verse provides us with 41 ‘prompts’ or rather ideas for writing poems – from “I Am” poems to black-out poems, from ‘Renga’ to Abecedarius, from diminuendo poems to objects with voices. Each style is explained with an example and a nudge for the reader to try it out, followed by a ‘Poetry Power-Up’ – a challenge or an extension to scaffold your writing.
