It’s been a fruitful ‘reading week’ where I caught up with some good reads. I picked this up on whim, mainly because this is written in my favourite format – it’s a novel in verse. But I had not read its review and this made reading “𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲” even more special.
“𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲” is a tender and gentle story of Laura who is forced to stay away from her beloved parents because of a phone call that she made. She must now live with her ‘aunt’ who is almost a stranger for Laura. While her parents are in rehab, Laura fervently hopes to be reunited with them soon and believes that her stay with her aunt is a temporary solution. Navigating a new place, a new school, the social services officers, and her guilt for having made that call, Laura’s story will make a mark. This middle grade book is about foster care, child neglect, substance addiction, therapy dogs and the notion that change is not always bad!
