Sound Switch Wonder

Picture books these days are so specialised and they provide a window into the world of diverse characters that it warms my heart. Meet a deaf boy with cochlear implants (“CI”) in “𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗪𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿”. He wakes up every morning into a silent world and when he is ready, he puts his CI on. The complete absence of sound without the CI is unfathomable to his hearing parents. Our protagonist tries this best to get his parents to experience this part of his soundless life and after a few tries, finally comes up with a plan for sharing this with people he loves!

Inspired by the authors’ real-life experience, this book is a must-read for all the hearing people for a peek into the lives of those with CI. I love the tone of the book where the inability to hear isn’t seen with a deficit lens but just as something different.
