I couldn’t believe my luck when I received the advance copy of “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝘁: 𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗴𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆” by Afghan writer Dezh Azaad, who has been a refugee his whole life. His longing for ‘home’ is expressed through the significance of carpets in his culture. A perfect example of how lived experiences elevate literature to a new level, this is a book that brings together traditions, the concept of belonging and yearning for a distant land.
