Just finished reading “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗼𝗿” by Ellen Oh, the founder of ‘We Need Diverse Books.’ This spooky story will hook your readers who love stories about ghosts, spirits, and malevolent forces.

Rory Parker has seen creepy things and mysterious creatures with yellow eyes in the house next door. He has witnessed eerie figures lurking in the shadows, faced unsettling encounters with spirits, and lost his closest friend to the house’s sinister forces. But when new neighbours—Jack and his family—move in next door, Rory takes it upon himself to shield them, no matter the cost.

The book engulfed me with its haunting allure and I can very well imagine wide-eyed kids reading page after page keeping hunger and nature’s call at bay until the last page is turned. Perfect for Grades 5 and above.

Book drops 30 September 2025. Many thanks to HarperCollins for the advance review copy. Opinion expressed here is mine and completely uninfluenced!
