Diya is very excited about visiting Nani in India for Diwali. It took 7,850 miles for her to reach Nani – her grandma and best friend. Once Diya reaches her Nani’s place, they go shopping, make laddoos, make rangoli, get dressed up in saris and lehengas with bindi and bangles, and light the Diwali lamps. Family and friends arrive for the festive occasion, but soon Diwali is over and it is time for Diya to leave…

“𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂” is a book centered around the festival of Diwali. But what sets it apart is the skillful storytelling by focusing on small moments that would touch your heart. As I read the book, I could relate completely to my own trips back home with my daughter. Visiting family during festivals is a completely different experience. I especially loved the spread where people at the bazaar exclaim, “Your granddaughter is here! She looks just like you!” Also relatable were the spreads on rangoli, lehenga, the lighting of the diyas and that sinking feeling once festivities are over!

This is one of the best Diwali books that I’ve read in quite a few years – a true reflection of the feelings associated with visiting home during Diwali. This book is not to be missed!
