Usha loves trucks and she is learning how to cartwheel without much success. One night she and her elder sister Aarti look at the sky. Aarti finds the Big Dipper, but Usha thinks it is a ‘big digger’, and their cousin Gloria thinks it is a kite. A beautifully illustrated book on perspectives, spatial awareness, and imagination, its strength lies in its simplicity. Young children would find the book easy to understand, the repetition of “flippety thump” would add to the appeal and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this becomes a ‘go-to’ book for early childhood educators to teach spatial sense.
The short note about Big Dipper, its popular names in different cultures and suggested activities for kids, make this book even more enriching.
And here’s the good news for educators in Singapore – this book is available for borrowing at the public library (Call Number: KNI).
