What I Am

This book is for anyone who has faced (or is likely to face) the question “What are you”. Even when asked without the intention to belittle or hurt someone’s feelings, this question dilutes one’s humanity and reduces them to an inanimate object. Divya Srinivasan’s book is a fitting reply that honours the contradictions of human existence and highlights the impossibility of confining the characteristics of a person into a singular narrative based on ethnicity or geographical origin. The young narrator in the book cleverly replies that she is a daughter and granddaughter, selfish and generous, mean and kind, all at the same time, bringing forth the duality of human nature.

If you have not read “What I Am” yet, it is time to grab a copy now! Perfect for pairing with “Where are you from?” written by Yamile Saied Mendez.
