In a world where love is made out to be more convoluted than it can ever be, this book couldn’t have come at a better time!
“𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦?” asks a little boy to his grandma. Grandma, though she was old, didn’t quite have an answer and asks the boy to go out into the world and find out for himself. The boy does as he is told, and he asks a fisherman who exclaims that love is a fish that remains just out of reach, but if you catch it and know what you are doing, you’d give it a kiss and throw it back into the sea. The boy next asks an actor who replies that love is an applause because applause makes the actor feel seen and through applause, he knows that he exists. The boy poses the same question to a cat, a carpenter and many others that he meets, each defining love in their own profound way. The boy continues his quest.
One day the boy returns home. The lights were on and dinner was ready as he stood in the garden feeling the mud under his toes. His grandma was older, and the little boy had grown taller. As the boy picks up his grandma in his arms, it is in this homecoming that he finally finds his own interpretation of this elusive emotion…
What a beautiful book! Great for 5+ for discussing what ‘love’ means to them; perfect for 8+ for also appreciating the use of figurative language and a must-have for adults for some introspection. Love, love, love this book!
