“𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀” is a collection of 12 short stories penned by 12 East-Asian-American or Southeast-Asian American authors. The stories take place at the Chicago International Airport and each inter-connected short story showcases the experience of a different 12-year-old Asian American kid. On this particular day, flights are cancelled, and cancelled or delayed flights often bring out the worst in people.

A line-up of authors that include Christina Soontornvat, Erin Entrada Kelly, Minh Lê, Linda Sue Park, Ellen Oh, Grace Lin and others, it is impossible not to beeline for this book. The first short story featuring Paul at the airport on his way to Thailand with his parents, 3-year-old sister and Grandma, is bound to hook you as you find Grandma trying to smuggle Granddad’s ashes in a coffee can (because the ashes must be spread where the Chao Phraya River meets the sea). The cultural sensitivities mixed with humour and tension will see you read page after page and you will soon find that each chapter is more captivating than the previous one!

Perfect for 9-year-olds to 99. Highly recommended!
