While I am ever so ready to lap up novels-in-verse, it has been quite a while since Iโve read a memoir to satisfy my own reading appetite outside of figuring out what the young people around me might like. Kwame Alexander (๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ด๐ด๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ; ๐๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฅ) provided the right bridge through his memoir โ๐ช๐ต๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ ๐ก๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐โ. It is a memoir, a recipe book, a collection of poems, and a record of fatherhood. The part about children growing up is so relatable and his raw honesty throughout is palpable. My favourite part is his relationship with Nikki Giovanni โ from the initial idea that โ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ต๐ช๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ด ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ด ๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ต ๐จ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฅ ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ฆโ to the great Nikki confessing, โ๐๐ง ๐ ๐ค๐ข๐ฏ ๐ฉ๐ข๐ท๐ฆ ๐ข ๐ญ๐ช๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ณ๐บ ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฏ, ๐ ๐ญ๐ช๐ฌ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฌ ๐ช๐ต ๐ช๐ด ๐๐ธ๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐๐ญ๐ฆ๐น๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ณ.โ I just canโt get over this book!
What are you reading (or planning to read) to satisfy your own reading appetite?
